Supergirl - Casting So Far

With filming on the pilot for Supergirl now in production, I thought I'd do something of a rundown of the casting so far.

Again in the title role of Kara Danvers/Supergirl herself is Melissa Benoist, who has now dyed her hair a lighter tone for the role. If you check her Twitter account you might have spotted a recent photo of Benoist with another Kara as well too. As Jimmy Olsen, we have Mehcad Brooks and Laura Benanti as Kara's birth mother Alura Zor-El as well as Calista Flockhart as Kara's boss, Cat Grant.

Adding to the cast are both Chyler Leigh and David Harewood. The former Grey's Anatomy regular will play Alex, the foster sister to Kara while former Homeland actor Harewood will be taking on the role of Hank Henshaw aka Cyborg Superman.

Cast in mysterious roles are former Superman (as in Lois & Clark) and Supergirl actors themselves are Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Given that Smallville had previously featured both actors (as well as other Superman related people), I'm not surprised that Supergirl will too. I'm not sure what roles both Cain and Slater will be playing but here's hoping both of them are in a fair chunk of episodes to boot.

One of the last roles has been for Jeremy Jordan. The former Smash actor will be taking on the role of Kara's colleague Winslow "Winn" Schott aka Toyman, which means we probably have the working of one of Supergirl's first prominent antagonists as well. Overall, this seems to be shaping up pretty nicely with the casting.

The pilot for Supergirl has begun filming now. The series will air on CBS in the autumn for US viewers.
