My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 1x14: "River Of Time"

Savage (to Rip): "Now if you'll excuse me, I better be getting back to 2166. I've been waiting so very long to meet your family. Wouldn't miss it for the world."

Of course it would happen. I knew the moment they had Savage on the Waverider was the moment when things were going to end badly and predictably enough, it did. That and the fact that Savage had been manipulating time, which also led to Jax being somewhat taken out of the equation.

In a moment of selflessness, Stein found a way of saving/sending Jax back to his own time for his own good but not before we got a glimpse of Jax and his mother talking about a family get together during one of several lovely flashbacks in this episode. With two episodes to go though, I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of Jax just yet.

Keeping with the flashbacks, we saw Savage lording it over a captive Rip in Ancient Egypt while Ray shared a moment with Felicity in Palmer Tech prior to joining Rip's team and Sara and Nyssa also sharing a lovely scene shortly after the former being revived/having her soul returned to her and Stein briefly interacting with Clarissa as well. They were nice little character moments in an episode that had a lot of chaos surrounding it.

Chaos stemming from Ray being easily manipulated into giving Savage an opportunity to escape and a memory wiped Carter to finally realise who Kendra really was to him. The little subversion here being that unlike earlier this season, Savage actually failed in his attempts to kill Carter but the episode did end with him getting one over on Rip.

I should've seen the fact that Savage was working with the Time Masters coming a mile off because it actually does make a lot of sense and it does also help to explain why he's been a few steps ahead of Rip and the team as well. The episode then ended with the majority of them being captured (Sara and Snart managed to hide in time) and Savage lording it over Rip in that OTT manner we've grown accustomed with his character. Still there's another two episodes left to permanently wipe that smug grin off his face though.

- I'm surprised we didn't get some Mick/Leonard and Kendra/Carter flashbacks in this episode as well.
- I got a kick out of seeing both Sara and Stein helping Rip with piloting the ship. Going by the previews for next week, Sara has become an expert in it. Just make her the leader already. Savage also goaded her about Laurel.
- Distracting guards with a pen? As ridiculous as Rip's leadership at times. Kind of funny though.
- Chronology: Various times with the flashbacks, mostly on the Waverider but Savage is determined to head back to 2166 now.

Certainly a better episode than last week, River Of Time treated us to some nice flashbacks with most of the characters but between Ray being easily manipulated by Savage and Rip's continuously bad leadership skills, no wonder it's been left to Sara and Snart will have to save the gang.
